Clinical, technical, and business knowledge you need in an environment that challenges you to succeed
We select talented and driven graduates and professionals for our medical device specialist training program. Focused on cardiac rhythm management (CRM) and electrophysiology (EP) devices, this 24-week, full-time program covers clinical and technical knowledge, medical device business and market knowledge, and hands-on skills in programming and assessing device performance.
It’s rigorous, comprehensive training which rewards those who are passionate, focused, and hard working. We start three cohorts per year, and each cohort completes three phases of study.
Phase One (8 Weeks): Core Curriculum (Online)
The first eight weeks of the program takes place online, as students participate in interactive lessons that cover fundamental concepts of physiology, rhythm management, and device implantation procedures:
- Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
- Conduction system
- Pacemaker timing cycles
- Paced and non-paced EKG analysis
- Sterile technique
- Intra-operative device testing and implantation
- Interpreting fluoroscopic images
- Operational protocols for EP studies
Students who successfully complete this phase of the program progress to the on-site phase of the program in Braintree, Massachusetts.
Phase Two (4 Weeks): On-Site Laboratory Simulation and Professional Development
The next phase of the program challenges students to apply their didactic knowledge to active problem-solving exercises and simulations in our award-winning laboratory facilities, including a mock operating room. At our one-of-a-kind Programmer Bar™, students compare the algorithms of different manufacturers’ CRM devices, and get to know the operational parameters.
Concurrently with laboratory work, students attend our series of CRM/EP business lectures, which cover:
- Roles and expectations of successful CRM/EP device field personnel
- Business planning
- Market development
- Communication skills for sales and clinical support
Phase Three (10 Weeks): Clinical Rotations
In the final phase of the program, students fan out among our world-renowned clinical partners in the greater Boston area to observe procedures and cases, shadow current CRM device reps, and talk to practitioners in the field. They reinforce what they learn on-site with hands-on lessons in our PrepLab™ simulation laboratories.
